From May 2nd to 20th the beautiful Iris Garden will reopen its doors: a green oasis next to Piazzale Michelangelo with a stunning view on the city.
This garden was established in 1954 to host an annual international competition for the best iris variety. The choice of Florence is significant because of the historic ties that the city has always had with this flower: a red Iris on a white ground (not a lily, as contrary to popular belief) is the emblem representing Florence. The surface of the Garden, about two and a half hectares, held in an olive grove, hosts an extraordinary variety of this flower.
Opening hours: from 10AM to 6PM. Free admission.
The Iris Garden is easy to reach also by public transportation: Ataf Bus n° 12 or 13.
