Waiting for Christmas

Christmas celebrations will start on November 20 with the Weihnachtsmarkt Christmas market in Piazza Santa Croce. This famous fair has the Nordic atmosphere of German Christmas markets: the smell of spices, mulled wine and candies, home and Christmas tree decorations. It will be open every day until December 19.

Traditionally, on December 8 Christmas lights will be switched on with "F-light", Festival of lights featuring artistic illuminations and the lighting of Christmas trees.  The program is currently being defined.

The brightest street is via Tornabuoni with its Christmas decorations: waterfalls of lights and precious gold and silver balls. Don’t forget to visit the shop La Rinascente and the Carousel in Piazza della Repubblica.

December 8 is also the Immaculate Conception Day, celebrated with a special Fair, “Fierucola dell'Immacolata”, in Santissima Annunziata square, a food market with organic vegetables, Italian bread and cheese, and quality handicrafts and toys.

Christmas also means winter sports in Florence and this year you will have the opportunity to ice-skate all around the big fountain in the gardens of Fortezza da Basso. A new entry will be the Ferris wheel from where you can see the whole city. The winter park opens from December 4 to January 16.
