Fiesole, artists' paths

The hill of Fiesole, for its natural beauty, the extraordinary view, the poetic landscape and the beautiful villas was chosen by many artists as a place where to live or work.

For those who are in Florence reaching Fiesole is simple, you can do it by bus or on foot along the enchanting Vecchia Fiesolana road. Then you can go on a tour of Foundations or Houses where the tracks of the artists who lived there are still clearly present, places full of beauty and art.

Along this route you can visit the Michelucci Foundation, located on via Beato Angelico, the winding road that goes up to Fiesole, overlooking Florence in an extraordinary location. Michelucci was the architect of buildings that are the very image of Florence, an extremely modern innovator. Inside his home you can breathe in beauty at its purest, and see the projects that he curated during his long life (he died a few days before his 100th birthday, in 1990).

Located behind the hill is the Primo Conti Foundation,  the house-museum of a painter who crossed the whole Twentieth Century (from 1911 to 1985) and that, like a mirror, reflects the artistic events of Italy and the world. The Foundation carries out the study of Primo Conti's archives, and manages an important library.

Walking down towards Pian del Mugnone, located on the Caldine side is the Sauro Cavallini Study Center. A sculptor whose works in Florence are strategically placed in the Palazzo degli Affari Garden at the Conference Centre, in the piazza Ferrucci garden, in the garden in front of the RAI seat, at Villa Favard and at the San Miniato al Monte Basilica. Many other works are placed in the park surrounding the house and inside the villa.
