From Hell to the Empyrean - Dante's world between science and poetry

From Hell to the Empyrean - Dante's world between science and poetry

On the occasion of the Dante celebrations, the Museo Galileo in collaboration with the Uffizi Galleries presents an exhibition dedicated to Dante and his scientific knowledge.

We will get to know Dante as a doctor, abachista (expert in counting), geométer, geologist and cosmographer, as can be seen in the passages of the Comedy, the Covivio and the Quaestio de acqua et terra, and as a profound expert in Islamic culture: the astrolabe is in fact at the heart of the section dedicated to the structure of Dante's Universe.

The exhibition is organised with the patronage and support of the National Committee for the celebration of the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's death.

The sections of the exhibition reproduce the tripartition of the Commedia with three-dimensional models, multimedia projections, high-definition facsimiles of manuscripts and original works: paintings, drawings, prints and maps of the world depicting the Garden of Eden.

The exhibition is realised with the patronage and support of the National Committee for the celebration of the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's death.
