The new, articulated MAD Murate Art District project, a site-specific exhibition by the Serbian artist Ana Vujovic, develops in the various rooms of the complex, from the external portico to the cells on the first floor, and is the result of a long residency in the spaces of the contemporary art centre.
Starting from a pre-Slavic tradition of weaving, an ancient female art, Ana Vujovic investigates the relationship between tradition, history, gender issues and the role of error, of glitch on the other. The artist uses the traditional weaving techniques of Serbia, but setting them in the Florentine context, thus using precious silks and papers, raw materials and symbols of our tradition, also with the collaboration of the Antico Setificio Fiorentino and Rossi 1931.
During the visit you will be accompanied by the verses of the poet Etel Adnan quoted in the title, "We are not playing a game of pain, we are trying to grow wings and fly" (trying to grow wings), and by multimedia installations by the artist herself.
The common thread running through the corpus of works created for the exhibition is the symbol of the bird, which the artist has identified both in the pattern of the Renaissance fabric Uccellini and in some traditional papers: we find it in all the rooms, from the outside to the inside of MAD, as a symbol of resilience. During the visit, you will be accompanied by the verses of the poet Etel Adnan quoted in the title, "We are not playing a game of pain, we are trying to grow wings and fly", starting from the outdoor audio under the loggia to the Anna Banti room, passing through the complex installations in the three cells: a continuous game of cross-references that multiply the semantic levels of the work.
Visits and workshop in Italian language.
