Christian Balzano. Outside the World

Christian Balzano. Outside the World

From 19 January, Palazzo Medici Riccardi will host the exhibition Christian Balzano. Outside the World. The exhibition by the artist, known for his use of various techniques, materials and ways of expression, is on until 12 March and explores the condition of the planet and mankind and the great themes of our lives: the enormous ideological contrasts and the rapid changes taking place (geo-political, religious, cultural and social) highlighting the need for reflection and change.

The strongly interconnected works are nothing more than elements that represent a critical atlas of the globe, which Balzano approaches as one large, multifaceted social and political fabric:  the four large marble stamps with the symbols of the world's most widespread religions (Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu) to which the artist's 'personal' stamp (a bull) is added; or fabrics on which maps of warring countries transformed by sea water stand out; or, again, flags of countries whose borders are separated by walls or impassable lines.

The exhibition is divided into four topic sections, deeply connected to each other: the pluralism of religion, contaminated and contaminating nature, continents, countries and flags are the themes around which the works on display are focused, all united by the use of fabric, a material that, with its interwoven threads, represents the very skin and flesh of nations in all their geopolitical complexity.
