With the exhibition Mimmo Jodice. Senza tempo (Timeless), from 24 March to 14 July at Villa Bardini, inaugurates the second part of the project La Grande Fotografia Italiana by Gallerie d'Italia , which started in 2022 with the exhibition dedicated to Lisetta Carmi and which pays homage to the great Italian photographers of the 20th century.
The magnificent setting of Villa Bardini will host the works of Mimmo Jodice, another giant of photographic art, which will be on display in Florence for the first time from the day of his 90th birthday.
The 80 works on display highlight Jodice's ability to show us reality through the filter of a different, suspended time, enriched by a previously unseen section devoted to the works by Michelangelo and a documentary by director and friend Mario Martone on the life of Mimmo Jodice, also previously unseen.
The exhibition offers a summary of Jodice's production, retracing the main inspirational themes of his art represented by the sections of the exhibition: Anamnesis, Languages, Views of Naples, City, Nature, Seas. The 80 pictuers, including some of the iconic works that have definitively attested the greatness of the Neapolitan master, were taken from 1964 to 2011.
The exhibition also includes a special section dedicated to Michelangelo's works and a docu-film on Mimmo Jodice's life by director and friend Mario Martone, also previously unpublished.
