MIDA 2026 - International Handicrafts Trade Fair

As every year, MIDA, the International Handicrafts Exhibition, is back, running from 25 April to 3 May at the Fortezza da Basso.

The best of artistic craftsmanship

This is an unmissable event: an exhibition showcasing the best of artistic craftsmanship from around the world (from design to clothing, from jewellery to home furnishings and decorative objects); an event, founded in 1931, which this year celebrates its 90th edition! Combining tradition and modernity, the Fair, housed in the Fortezza da Basso ("lower Fortress") welcomes around 500 exhibitors from Italy and abroad, with a particular focus on the heart of Made in Italy: Italian craftsmanship. Special stands, marking the twinning with the City of Florence, will be those of Riga, Ningbo and Kraków. The stand of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy will also be present for promotional and informational activities.

Side events

The event’s format evolves each year, featuring workshops designed to introduce visitors to artisanal traditions, as well as guided tours (including of the Fortress’s underground passages) and specialised experiences. The Fair includes a series of events at the Teatrino Lorenese: on 29 April, the international conference “The national and European protection system for geographical indications for artisanal and industrial products” and, the following day, “Crafting Wellbeing: Practices, Communities and the Power of Making” to reflect on the role of craftsmanship in the wellbeing of individuals and communities. The history of MIDA’s ninety editions will be retraced through a dedicated exhibition.

Street food and live music

The event will also feature numerous food stalls, offering street food and more, as well as evening outdoor concerts with live performances, ranging from saxophone and harp to solo vocals, reinterpreted in a contemporary style.
