Trail n. 16c, approximately 1km long and easily explored, starts from the Church of San Pietro, in the village of Sant'Amato and ends at the Chiusa del Barco Reale Mediceo, a ring of walls built in the 17th century, about 50km long, which expanded up to the Montalbano top and was used as a hunting reserve by the Medici family.
Along the route you find:
The Church of San Pietro, from whose terrace you can enjoy a wonderful view of the underlying valley and the Pisan Mounts
The Chiusa del Barco Reale Mediceo, recently rediscovered by the Association Montalbano Domani, which was used to drain the waters of streams and that, thanks to a metal grid, could hold animals. At that time there had to be many sluices along the whole perimeter of the Barco but the Sant'Amato one probably is the last one still so clearly visible.
