In the Mugello area on horseback in the Giogo-Casaglia park

A route with start and return from the Badia di Moscheta horse riding centre, in the Municipality of Firenzuola in the upper Mugello.

Following trail 713 you climb along the Vacchile stream towards the La Serra lodge, where you can enjoy the view of the valley up to Firenzuola and further in the distance Mount Abetone. Continuing you go down through a beechwood in the Valle del Rovigo along the so-called "dead bitch" trail.

Wading the Rio Rovigo brook you take a left and get from the river to the I Diacci lodge for the lunch stop. After lunch the route continues along the ancient Roman road that leads to Prato all'Albero, from here you access trail 00 of the Giogo-Colla di Casaglia ridge and passing by Capanna Marconi, scene of World War II events, you go back down towards Badia di Moscheta.

The hike takes about 6/7 hours, with a length of about 25 km.

Badia di Moscheta

 

Surrounded by forests fir trees, the Moscheta abbey was founded by Saint John Gualberto in 1034. The abbey had periods of great splendor, then it was suppressed in the Lorraine period and reduced to a parish. The various buildings are arranged around a courtyard.

Today the complex houses the Museum of the Historical Landscape of the Apennines.
