FloReMus

The FloRemus Renaissance music festival returns for its 7th edition, organized by the Ensemble Homme Armé of Florence. A variety of musical events—including concerts, lectures, guided tours, and walking tours—will take place at various venues throughout the city from September 6 to 27, featuring leading international ensembles. The festival focuses on a rich and carefully curated repertoire of European music—both sacred and secular—from the 15th and 16th centuries.

Various evening concerts (9:15 p.m.) are held at the Cenacolo di Sant’Apollonia: the opening concert, featuring the original music performed for Martin Luther’s wedding; the concert on September 11 (the Catalan ensemble Capella de Ministres), centered on the figure of Lucrezia Borgia; and the concert on the 20th, presented by L’Homme armé, featuring 16th- and 17th-century compositions from the courts of Florence and Mantua. The Cenacolo di Fuligno, on the other hand, will host a harpsichord recital by Catalina Vicens on September 17.

The “Musical Aperitifs” (starting at 7:00 p.m.) will take place at various locations throughout the city, including some unusual ones: on the 9th at the Murate, a recital by lutenist Giorgius Kakistsis; on the 15th, “Italian Influences at the Court of the Valois” at the Auditorium of Santa Croce al Tempio; The Great Secular Madrigals on the 18th at Palazzo Medici Riccardi; on the 22nd, a recital by Enrico Ruberti on the viola da gamba at the San Salvi Museum. Finally, on the 26th in the church of San Donato in Polverosa, the Sacred Madrigals, highlighted by those of Palestrina.

There are also numerous themed exhibitions at a number of libraries (Laurenziana, Marucelliana, Nazionale) where ancient and rare musical scores are on display.
