"Da Paesi e Popoli lontani..." - Fortepiano concerts

On Thursday, May 14, at 8:00 PM in the Orchestra Hall, the five-concert series by the Bartolomeo Cristofori Fortepiano Academy will begin. The other scheduled dates are May 19, May 26, June 3, and June 9. Five leading performers will take turns playing five original fortepianos: Roberto Prosseda on May 14; Olga Pashchenko on May 19; Wolfgang Brunner on May 26; JinJu on June 3; and Yuan Sheng on June 9.

The series, a project curated by Stefano Fiuzzi, is titled “From Distant Lands and Peoples…” and takes inspiration from Robert Schumann’s celebrated piano cycle Von fremden Ländern und Menschen, evoking a musical journey through different cultures, styles, and national traditions. The idea is to transform each concert into a sort of “musical portrait,” in which repertoire, performance style, and historical instrument interact to offer audiences a vivid and authentic perspective on nineteenth-century European music.

The selected programs will include works by Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Fanny Hensel, and Glinka, offering a broad exploration of the piano repertoire between Classicism and Romanticism, interpreted through the tonal colors and expressive qualities of period instruments.
