Il Bisonte - per lo studio dell'arte grafica

Active since: 1959
Areas of interest: Contemporary graphic art

Il Bisonte is synonymous with graphic art. Over the decades, artists and art world personalities have contributed to its success and its importance in the diffusion of printing techniques. Today it continues to stimulate interest in and understanding of graphic art while preserving a level of excellence with its specialisation school: here ‘know-how’ and ‘talent’ intersect such thatartisanal ‘virtues’ can serve an artist’s genius. Founded in 1959 as a print shop to attract the public to the world of graphic arts, Il Bisonte soon became a venue for meeting and exchanging different artistic experiences.

Great Italian and international masters have worked on its antique star-wheel printing press: Soffici, Carrà, Severini, Magnelli, Maccari, Guttuso Moore, Arroyo, Calder, Lipchitz, Matta, Sutherland, Tamayo, Picasso, and, more recently, Folon, Annigoni, Pomodoro, Greco and many others. Still today the gallery of the Il Bisonte foundation hosts graphic art exhibitions, meetings and book presentations. The gallery also contains a library dedicated to art and engraving, made up of over 3,000 volumes: the space is full of objects, while its walls are covered with the most representative lithographs of Il Bisonte’s history. The gallery also has a historic archive – which can be consulted by appointment – with at least one print for each of the more than 1,000 editions produced by the print shop, together with an archive of received donations.
