In an area outside the walls, which was in use by the hospital of Santa Maria Nuova, the Misericordia of Florence found space for its own cemetery, reserved for the brothers.
Around the end of the 1830s, Santa Maria Nuova renounced all claims and the cemetery known as the Pinti cemetery became the exclusive use of the Misericordia. Adjustments were made in 1839, giving the cemetery the appearance of a welcoming circle culminating in the chapel.
The cemetery of the Misericordia or dei Pinti had the characteristic of accommodating male deceased, as the brothers of the Misericordia were only male; it remained in use until 1898, when the places were exhausted and the Misericordia moved to a new cemetery in the Soffiano area.
Today, the Pinti cemetery, hidden from view by an imposing gate, is completely surrounded by houses and is in a state of semi-abandonment.
