Forte Belvedere - Summer opening

Forte Belvedere, the Medici fortress offering one of the most breathtaking views of the city, reopened to public on June 6, 2026. Starting June 24, in addition to the terraces, green spaces, and café, the opening also includes the Palazzina, with a cultural program running through October. As part of the exhibition project “Dramas, three acts,” dedicated to modern and contemporary art, the series kicks off with “God Year” by Paolo Canevari, followed in mid-July by a solo exhibition dedicated to Marino Marini. The lineup of other activities is also particularly rich, featuring concerts, talks, and guided tours. Discover all the details of Forte Belvedere—Program 2026.

Forte Belvedere will remain open throughout the summer every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., except Mondays. Admission to Forte Belvedere is free for residents of the Metropolitan City of Florence, while there is an admission fee for all other visitors (full price €8; reduced price €5). Accesses to the café and the events held on the terraces, however, are free for everyone, thanks to a dedicated route.

Forte di San Giorgio, better known as Forte di Belvedere, was founded in 1590 during the Grand Duchy of Ferdinand I and built according to the designs of Bernardo Buontalenti. In addition to defending the city from potential external attacks, in case of danger the Fort could be safely reached from Palazzo Pitti through the Boboli Gardens. The connection is still active today, and from the ramparts one can enjoy breathtaking views of the city and its surroundings.
