Firenze Déco. The atmosphere of the 1920s on display at Palazzo Medici Riccardi

From 2 April to 25 August, Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence is hosting the exhibition Firenze Déco. Atmospheres of the 1920s, an exhibition that helps to establish Florence as a leading figure within the artistic movement that emerged in Europe and the United States in the 1920s.

Artistic production

The refined and sophisticated aesthetic that brought a breath of modernity to the applied arts over the course of a decade is showcased in this exhibition through a display of ceramics, glassware, furnishings, jewellery, textiles, clothing, posters and stage costumes, ranging from the collaboration between Giò Ponti and Richard-Ginori, to the works of Galileo Chini and Thayaht, right through to the eye-catching advertising posters.

The exhibition highlights the collaborations between artists and workshops whose works helped to make Florence a sophisticated hub for the applied arts, fashion, design, theatre and decorative arts. Among the artists featured in the exhibition, in addition to the aforementioned Galileo Chini and Thayaht, are Umberto Brunelleschi, Alfredo Müller, Gino Carlo Sensani and poster artists such as Lucio Venna and Nerino.

The exhibition is curated by Lucia Mannini, sponsored by the Metropolitan City of Florence and organised by the MUS.E. Foundation.
