Londa: experience nature first-hand

All around Florence! Situated at the eastern end of the Florentine Area, Londa considers itself part of the Florentine Mountains, along with the neighbouring municipality of San Godenzo. And quite rightly so. With a territory ranging from 200 to 1,500 metres above sea level, two lakes and a Visitor Centre that serves as the gateway to a National Park, Londa boasts a natural heritage that is truly impressive.

What to do in Londa

Here we are in the realm of the great outdoors: the town is characterised by an artificial lake, which offers activities along its shores; the Aina lake, on the other hand, is situated in the Rincine Forest and can be reached on foot or by mountain bike.  The Rincine Forest is a model forest, a true example of excellence that has been included in an international network comprising more than sixty model forests worldwide. Then there is the National Park of the Casentino Forests, Mount Falterona and Campigna, for which Londa serves as the gateway to the Florentine area (the park spans two regions and several provinces), offering 600 km of footpaths, dedicated mountain bike routes, nature trails and accessible routes. Mount Falterona, on whose slopes Londa is situated, is also the source of the River Arno.
In short, a boundless natural heritage, with the forest as its most distinctive feature.

Amidst all this natural beauty, one also comes across interesting examples of art from the past, such as the Medieval Bridge or the Parish Church of Sant’Elena in Rincine.

Londa is also active in the food and wine sector, with a number of local specialities: the ‘bardiccio’, shared with neighbouring municipalities, and the ‘pesca regina’, a late-ripening variety that takes centre stage at the Festa della pesca regina in Londa in September.

Hiking and walking routes to Londa

The Rincine Forest boasts 26 km of hiking and nature trails that allow visitors to explore the area; the National Park offers an endless variety of walking routes for day trips, or for hiking from mountain hut to mountain hut, or for mountain biking, as described on the official website
Among the trails in the area, Londa is worth noting as a stop on the Renaissance Ring Road.  See the map of all the walking routes in the Florence area.

How to reach Londa

The town of Londa can be reached by intercity bus from Florence or by train to Londa-Contea, followed by a bus.
