The collection reflects a distinctly Mannerist spirit, combining the curiosity of the artist Baselitz with the discerning eye of a connoisseur who over time assembled works of extraordinary quality.
The exhibition traces the experiments of thegreat Italian Mannerists, including Parmigianino and Andrea Schiavone, alongside prints by the School of Fontainebleau and Northern masters such as Hans Sebald Beham and Albrecht Dürer, culminating in the innovative explorations of chiaroscuro by artists including Ugo da Carpi, Domenico Beccafumi, Andrea Andreani and Hendrick Goltzius.
