Saint Francis Is Alive – Concert at Santa Croce for the 800th anniversary of the Saint’s death

In the year marking the 800th anniversary of the Transitus of Saint Francis, Santa Croce celebrates the memory and legacy of the Saint with a concert dedicated to the Franciscan musical tradition. “Saint Francis Is Alive” retraces, through music, some of the most significant moments in Francis’s life: the Nativity at Greccio, the Stigmata, the Canticle of the Creatures, and the Transitus.

The evening will feature the Musical Chapel of the Papal Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi and the Florentine Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Fr. Peter Hrdy, OFM Conv.

The programme features compositions by Fr. Francesco Maria Zuccari (1697–1782), Fr. Domenico Stella (1881–1956), and Fr. Peter Hrdy himself, weaving together the Franciscan musical tradition and more recent compositions in a tribute to the figure of Saint Francis.
