Beato Angelico
Beato Angelico or the 15th century in Florence. Seventy years have passed since the last exhibition dedicated to this monk-artist, who is considered one of the fathers of Renaissance painting: Palazzo Strozzi, together with the Museum of San Marco, is dedicating a grand exhibition to him, which will run from 26 September to 25 January next year.
The exhibition is curated by Carl Brandon Strehlke, Curator Emeritus of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Visitors will be able to admire works scattered around the world, works that have been appropriately restored, and works that are permanently housed in Florence, in the extraordinary Museum of San Marco.
The Dominican friar, who was born in Vicchio in Mugello in 1395, always painted religious themes with the intention of arousing noble feelings and faith in the public and his fellow friars, so much so that the convent of San Marco, where he lived for a long time, is completely decorated with his paintings. In addition to Angelico's works, the exhibition also features paintings by Lorenzo Monaco, Masaccio, Filippo Lippi, and sculptors such as Lorenzo Ghiberti, Michelozzo and Luca della Robbia.
