The Flow of Time. Che Jianquan at the Sala d’Arme of Palazzo Vecchio

Exhibitions

From 20 November to 17 December 2025, the prestigious Sala d’Arme of Palazzo Vecchio will host the exhibition of Che Jianquan, featuring video works by the renowned Chinese artist and professor, internationally acclaimed and a key figure of the China Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024.

The exhibition, titled The Flow of  Time, is the first chapter of a three-year project dedicated to exploring leading figures in contemporary Chinese video art. It presents monumental video projections that investigate the cyclic nature of time and the relationship between humanity and the natural world. Organized by MAD Murate Art District – Fondazione MUS.E and Zhong Art International, the exhibition is curated by Valentina Gensini.

The Sala d’Arme, an exhibition space rich in history and character, becomes the ideal setting for a visual and sensory journey guiding visitors through reflections on natural energy and the mystery of existence. Thanks to the collaboration with students from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, coordinated by the MAD curatorial team, the installation offers an immersive experience that fosters a deep connection between the artwork and the surrounding space.

Admission to the exhibition is free.

The Flow of Time. Che Jianquan at the Sala d’Arme of Palazzo Vecchio

Exhibitions

The selected videos weave observation, meditation, and landscape into a visual narrative that brings modernity and tradition, sacredness and everyday life into dialogue. Each work follows the slow rhythm of listening and dwelling, inviting viewers into attentive, prolonged looking.

These images become poetic devices that open new spaces for interpretation, extending beyond the grand arches of the Sala d’Arme and engaging in a subtle conversation with the surrounding architecture. Time, stretched and suspended, becomes the very substance of the experience.

Che Jianquan’s works also offer a sharp insight into contemporary Chinese society, revealing often overlooked aspects and encouraging reflection on social issues that shape the present.
