The new program of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the most prestigious musical institution in Florence, was presented. Its modern Theater is located on the edge of the Cascine Park, next to the Leopolda Station, well connected by the Tram.
The new management, which involves extensive collaboration with other musical institutions in the city and ticket prices at much more affordable rates, has already started with excellent results for the ongoing winter season. The main Director is Daniele Gatti, assisted by Zubin Mehta.
The 2024 season starts from January 16th with Grieg's Peer Gynt, in concert form, directed by Nicolas Naegele with the participation of the actor Sandro Lombardi; the great pianist Grigory Sokolov will perform on March 11th, while from March 15th, opera returns with Donizetti's Don Pasquale, directed by Gatti with the staging by Johnathan Miller.
The Festival, one of the oldest in Europe, will be from April 13rd to June 15th. Two Puccini operas are scheduled: Turandot (from April 21st) directed by Zubin Mehta with the staging by Zhang Ymou, and Tosca (from May 24th), directed by Gatti with the staging by Massimo Propolizio. A world premiere will be the opera Jeanne Dark by Fabio Vecchi, directed by Mehta. Great expectations for the symphonic concert on May 12th conducted by Riccardo Muti leading the Wiener Philarmoniker, and on May 25th, conducted by Myung Whun Chung.
During the festival, the reopening of the large outdoor cavea, one of the many evocative spaces of the Maggio Musicale Theater, is also planned.
