Upon the scaffolding of the Brancacci Chapel

After diagnostic investigations and conservative restoration, the famous Brancacci Chapel frescoes in Florence's Chiesa del Carmine can be visited closely.
The work site was been opened to the public in early February, allowing people to climb up the specially prepared scaffolding and enjoy these extraordinary scenes and paintings closer than ever before. A unique emotion is ensured by observing the details and appreciating the scenes.
Visitors must book in advance to enjoy this unique visit because it is not possible to enter unaccompanied. The Associazione Mus.e, which manages the fruition of the Brancacci Chapel, offers a choice between two options: a small group guided tour to the scaffolding, as well as an introduction to the guided tour, before viewing the frescoes.
Each visit lasts about an hour. It is partly held in the cloister with a guide, partly in a room of the Convent with a film presentation on the artistic life of Renaissance Florence. Please note that visits are only available on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays by prior telephone or email booking.
First miraculously saved from the Marquis Ferroni's delusions for novelty in the 17th century, and then from a fire in the church in 1771, the Brancacci Chapel frescoes are a magnificent example of Renaissance painting. There were three masters were involved: Masolino da Panicale, Masaccio and, later, Filippino Lippi. The work was completed in 1483, many years after the first two artists.
