The construction of the church of Santa Maria al Prato, commissioned by the Dominican Fathers of Santa Maria Novella, dates back to 1304. In the 16th century it was deeply modified and in 1631 it became the seat of the Archconfraternity of the Mercy of San Casciano. In the first half of the 17th century the church was renewed in the Baroque style. During the Second World War it underwent serious damage which required a profound restoration.
Perhaps the most valuable work of the church is the Pulpit built in the first decades of the fourteenth century by Giovanni di Balduccio together with the painted cross attributed to Simone Martini and dated the third decade of the fourteenth century.
