The Convent and Church of San Francesco were erected at the end of the 14th century on top of the hill dominating Fiesole.
The museum (entrance inside the church) was established to preserve the Etruscan and Roman remains found during excavations in the convent area. Subsequent additions include a range of items from ancient China – clothes, musical instruments, prints, jade statuettes, porcelain and ivory objects – and archaeological finds from Egypt, all of which were collected by Franciscan missionaries.
