Active since: 2015 Areas of interest: Contemporary art
Cartavetra is a contemporary art gallery established by Brunella Baldi in 2015. It is the fruit of her wish to create a space that can break with the model of the gallery for the initiated few. Since it opened, it has taken its place as one of the emerging galleries in the field of contemporary art in Florence. The gallery is located in Via Maggio in the Oltrarno, between Piazza Pitti and Piazza S. Spirito, in a structure characterised by the typical architecture of 16th-century palaces of the area. Its premises consist of two broad rooms covering roughly 130 m2 of exhibition space. The gallery’s selection criteria are based on the desire to promote emerging and mid-career talents by organising exhibitions in its own rooms and in those of public institutions and through the publication of monographs and catalogues. In addition, it organises artist residences and promotes art through meetings with artists, lectures and in-depth looks at themes connected to art and literature. Since October 2015, Cartavetra has hosted roughly 25 exhibitions, including solo, two-person and collective events, representing both Italians and foreign talents. The gallery has also participated in national and international fairs.
