Facciata Chiesa del Santuario di Fontelucente

SS. Crocifisso di Fontelucente church

Built near a quarry in 1692, later enlarged with the side chapels and the portico, it leaves visible the rock from which the source flows, whose waters are thought to have miraculous properties. With a double staircase you access the tabernacle with the venerated stone crucifix (16th century), surrounded by an illusionistic architecture frescoed in monochrome with fake statues of Faith and Hope and topped with the Father in glory, probably by Antonio Pillori, who painted on the ceiling the Resurrection (1733).

There are also a triptych by Mariotto di Nardo with the Madonna of the Belt between saints John the Evangelist and Jerome (1398), and contemporary art works: a big concrete Crucifix by Mario Casini and a fresco designed by Pietro Annigoni and painted by Romano Stefanelli with the View of the source. Also found inside is a Pietà by contemporary artist Rodolfo Meli.
