Mentioned since 1156 as "San Pietro de Muliere Mala" in an edict by Adrian IV, it was subsequently governed by the Buondelmonti then by the Capitani di Parte Guelfa and lastly by the Grand Duke of Tuscany.
Its jurisdiction extended to a large territory that reached up to the village of Scopeti , in the municipality of San Casciano in Val di Pesa.
The current church was rebuilt in the 14th century and has then undergone several renovations.
Inside the church is a panel portraying the Madonna with Child, attributed to the Florentine painter Lorenzo di Bicci, artistically active between 1380 and 1427.
