The Ghirlandaio Chapel is located inside the private structure Dimora Ghirlandaio, named like this after a long restoration carried out between 2012 and 2018, to celebrate and remember the famous lineage of Florentine painters who owned it for almost three generations, from about 1484 to 1561.
In fact, it was Domenico del Ghirlandaio who bought this large property at the time when his workshop and houses were frequented by many students, among them Michelangelo Buonarroti. In 1518, Domenico's son, Ridolfo, who was also an illustrious painter, frescoed the chapel with a Madonna and Child Enthroned and Saints with, on the sides, depictions of his father Domenico, himself with his eldest son and his wife Contessina with two children
