Cure

3 stones: Aldo Levi, Giulio Levi, Adriana Castelli

Giulio Levi e Andriana Castelli lived their last years in a flat of this building in piazza delle Cure 7. They married in 1907 and had three children: Cesare, Sergio e Aldo. The 1st May 1944 Aldo was caught in a trap by the nazi-fascists and, on the same day, they arrested his parents, after emptying their house. The three of them were sent to Fossoli Camp and then to Auschwitz: Giulio and Adriana were immediately killed, Aldo died later in January 1945, some days before Soviet Armed Forces liberated the camp, during a long march from Sosnowitz (a sub-camp of Auschwitz) to Mauthausen. Sergio, with his wife and children and his brother Cesare, embarked on a dangerous journey towards Switzerland, with the help of some resistance fighters who convinced him to leave Florence, as nothing could be done for his family and they was risking to be arrested.
