2 stones: Giorgio Levi delle Trezze, Haya Xenia

Giorgio Levi delle Trezze married the Russian Xenia (Haya) Poliakoff, daughter of a rich banker he had met in Paris. He was appointed consul of Persia and King Umberto I gave him the title of Baron. After the armistice on September 1943 and the Nazi raid on the Roman Ghetto immediately after, the couple took refuge in Florence, first in lungarno degli Acciaioli 8, then in piazza Oberdan. Raids in Florence started at the beginning of November 1943; nevertheless, they did not leave home. They were arrested on 21st February 1944, by the German command, deported a month later, and then killed in Auschwitz.
