Chiesa di Sant'Ilario a Settimo - Lastra a Signa

Sant'Ilario a Settimo church

The church of Sant'Ilario a Settimo has a very ancient origin, the first documents about it date back to 1196, and is located on a hillock a short distance from the via Pisana road. The current location is not the original one, which was on the road to San Romolo.

The interior probably dates back to the 15th-16th century and features a single hall with a simple trussed roof. On the high altar is a particularly interesting painting on canvas, portraying Father God among Saints Francis and Hilary of Poitiers, attributable to an unknown Florentine painter of Matteo Rosselli's circle, done after 1637.
On the left side of the church is the Compagnia di Sant'Antonio Abate oratory, founded in 1577, whose ceiling is decorated with a fresco portraying Saint Anthony in front of the Virgin, a work by a mid-18th century Florentine painter.
