An impressive panoramic viewpoint overlooking the whole surrounding area. A clever and tourist-friendly use of a "bulky" building. This is the Torre del Chianti, in San Casciano Val di Pesa.
This ancient cylinder-shaped piezometric tower, owned by the Municipality of San Casciano, dominates the surrounding landcape with its 33 metres in height: in fact the view from the top stretches from the Florentine mountains to Vallombrosa, to the peaks of Pistoia, to the Pisan territory, to the Chianti hills, to the Sienese hamlets and, when the sky is especially clear, even the sea. The tower, as we see it today, was rebuilt in the second post-war period and, while still keeping its function as a water tank, it has mainly become a panoramic terrace from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Chianti hills.
