The Celle Castle is a fortified centre directly built on rock, in the middle of the ridge which from the Montescalari Abbey reaches Ponte agli Stolli.
The first piece of information about it dates back as early as 1072; recent studies show that the ruling family of the castle was the "Filii Griffi" one, in contrast to the much more important one of the Ubertini, who had control over the Piviere di Gaville. At the time the population of the castle included up to around 150 inhabitants. The crisis of the castle slowly begins in the 14th century. What is left of the walls still gives the idea of how it must have been: you can still see the cut off tower and the remains of a wonderful limestone wall surface.
