Canti Orfici

Teatro degli Animosi di Marradi

The theatre was built in 1792 in a Doric-Tuscan style on a design by a Florentine architect, possibly the same one who designed the Teatro Niccolini in Florence, and commissioned by the Accademia degli Animosi, made up of representatives of the local noble families, and by the Impresa Mughini of Como.

Damaged by aerial bombings during World War II, it was restored as best as possible and kept operating until 1970 when it was closed for safety reasons; the theatre reopened only 20 years later with a programme of theatre seasons which featured nationwide-known actors and various events; in 1997 it was newly refurbished with a forepart including the ticket office and the cloakroom. It has a 257 seating capacity.

Since 2017 it is run by the Compagnia Per non perir d'inedia.
