The history of the Teatro Niccolini begins in 1845 with the Magistrate of the San Casciano Val di Pesa Community who grants the concession of a plot of land for the construction of a theatre, provided that the work is completed within five years. The new space, dedicated to Giovan Battista Niccolini, is indeed inaugurated in 1850. The social part which promotes the construction is also the first owner, officially recognised by the title of Accademia dei Perseveranti. Fascism and World War II damage the theatre and, after a dark age, it is only in 1974 that the Superintendence acknowledges the value of the building, which gets restored. Acquired by the Municipality in 1984, it is renovated and then reopened in 1996. It is an Italian-style theatre with stalls and boxes; a wooden stage and a proscenium.
