Remains of the Etruscan settlement dating back to about the middle of the 7th century BC, seat of aristocratic groups which exercised control of the area and the communication routes. Here two princely tumulus tombs were found.
Later, in the Hellenistic age, Poggio la Croce was equipped with a city wall, new buildings and open spaces for various activities, becoming one of the fortresses of the Chianti area, probably part of a control system supported by the city of Fiesole.
It is located in the woodland area on the Provincial Road 118 Mercatale-Panzano, in front of the Solatione farmhouse.
