Castello di Coiano

Castello di Coiano

The Castle of Coiano is located in the heart of Tuscany, with more than 75 hectares of terrain through the little hills of Castelfiorentino, Montaione and San Miniato. It produces and commercializes its Chianti DOCG and its extra virgin olive oil, from a terrain mostly made of clay and limestone.

These lands already noted in the third century b.C. have carried on the administrative activity of castle and factory, that produces wine and oil of notable prestige.

The story of the castle starts around the end of X century a.C, when the Archbishop of Canterbury Sigeric stopped exactly there after his return from Rome. One very important reference because exactly from this event the stop of Coiano became part of the itinerary of the Via Francigena.

The Castle belonged for one period to the Albizi family, then subsequently to the Pucci family.

In 1921, the farm and the castle of Coiano were bought by Elia Volpi, a great art collector who created his own collection in the Davanzati Palace in Florence.

Nowadays the productivity continues as in centuries past and has also become one point of refreshment, famous for ceremonies.
