Galleria Turchi Antichità

Galleria Turchi Antichità

Active since: 1995
Areas of interest: Galleria Turchi Antichità deals in art objects and antiques, in particular antique weapons and armour, paintings, furniture, furnishing accessories, tapestries, sculpture, maiolica and porcelain

This historic gallery was established in 1942 by Niccolina Gallori and Giorgio Turchi, art and antiques enthusiasts. Their passion was passed on to their sons Giovanni and Bruno, who carried on the family tradition in two different display spaces. Their children in turn continue the tradition, representing the family’s third generation. Galleria Turchi Antichità has two locations on Via Maggio, one at number 50/r and the other at 42/r, in the Palazzo di Bianca Cappello. This Quattrocento building was restored by the architect Bernardo Buontalenti (1531-1608) and decorated in the ‘grotesque’ style by Bernardino Poccetti (1548-1612) upon a commission by Francesco I de’ Medici. Indeed Francesco purchased the building to give it to his beloved, the Venetian noblewoman from whom the palazzo takes its name. Today Giovanni Turchi continues the business together with his daughters Elisa and Olivia, who already imbibed the family tradition in their school and university years: Olivia is a curator and art historian, while Elisa is a conservator of antique paintings. The collection of this important gallery is characterised by antique weapons and armour, together with a careful selection of furniture, paintings and sculpture of mostly Italian origin, arranged chronologically from the early modern era to the 19th century.
