Villa Montalvo

Villa Montalvo

Villa Montalvo consists of two quadrangular bodies, a chapel and a lemon house, surrounded by two historic gardens and located in the Urban Park complex named after the villa itself.

The villa originally consisted of a fortified palace, made in the early 14th century and it experienced numerous changes of ownership during its centuries of existence, from the Tornaquinci to the Medici through to the Ramirez de Montalvo, Spaniards who arrived in Florence in the retinue of Eleanor of Toledo, bride of Cosimo I dei Medici.

The current appearance of the villa is due to renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries as well as a restoration at the end of the last century that returned it to its former glory and allowed it to be transformed into a multifunctional centre, in particular it houses the Municipal Library, the Historical Archives of the Municipality and some municipal offices.
