The church of San Salvatore in Ognissanti was founded in the mid-thirteenth century by the Umiliated friars, a religious order that was dedicated to the processing and trade of wool, taking advantage of the course of the Arno and Mugnone which flowed here.
During the fourteenth century the church was enriched with works of art of extraordinary value, such as Giotto's Maestà (now in the Uffizi). Subsequently, the complex passed to the Observant Friars and major renovations were started.
The interior, while retaining the Gothic architecture with a single nave and raised transept, has a sober Baroque decoration, so the facade built in 1637 on a project by architect Matteo Nigetti. Of great interest is the detached fresco, painted by Botticelli in 1480, located on the right wall, representing Sant 'Agostino in the Studio, a work created in opposition to San Gerolamo in the Studio by Ghirlandaio, located on the opposite wall.
