New opening days and times to visit Santa Croce

New opening days and times to visit Santa Croce

Throughout the month of August, the Opera di Santa Croce will welcome visitors with new ways of visiting and expanding the opening hours, also offering the opportunity for suggestive evening visits.

Therefore, the choice to focus on the quality of hospitality continues by participating in the rebirth of Florence together with all the institutions and operators active in the field of cultural tourism.

Visitors to Santa Croce can choose, at different times and days, between the Classic Route and the Special Route:

The Classic Route, lasting 50 minutes, brings visitors inside the Basilica, the Arnolfo’s Cloister and the Refectory. Visitors will have the possibility to admire an immense artistic heritage that includes the monumental tombs of great Italians such as Michelangelo, Galilelo, and Machiavelli, along with frescoes by Giotto portraying scenes from the life of Saint Francis, and extraordinary Renaissance paintings and altarpieces.
Available on Monday and Saturday: 11:00-17:00; Thursday: 19:00-22:00; Sunday and religious holidays: 13:00-17:00.

The Special Route, one hour and a half audio-guided tour, gives the visitors the opportunity to visit the monumental complex when it is not open to the public. It is meant for small groups only, and it includes the Basilica and the Arnolfo’s Cloister, showing works of art and areas that for safety reasons are not visible when the monumental complex is regularly open to the public: the Sacristy (Crucifix by Cimabue), and the interior of the Pazzi Chapel. Other areas are exceptionally accessible during this visit: the Bardi di Vernio Chapel (Crucifix by Donatello), and the Bardi di Mangona Chapel (14th century frescoes by Maso di Banco).
Available on Wednesday and Friday: 16:00, 19:15 and 19:45.

Tickets must be purchased online on the site. Places are limited. To facilitate the visit in compliance with the anti-Covid rules, the reservation, free of charge, is strongly recommended for the Classic route and mandatory for the Special route.
