Elettrice Palatina

Elettrice Palatina. The celebrations

Like every year, on next 18 February  we celebrate the Palatine Electress, Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, on the day of her death in 1743. The last heir of the Medici family, this great figure had the merit of binding all the assets of the extraordinary Medici collections to the city of Florence, and to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, forever, by signing the famous Family Pact, according to a rather modern principle: ‘for the ornament of the State, for the benefit of the public and to attract the curiosity of foreigners.’

On the occasion, free admission to the civic museums:

  • Museo di Palazzo Vecchio (9.00-19.00)
  • Torre di Arnolfo (9.00/17.00)
  • Museo Novecento (11.00-20.00)
  • Santa Maria Novella (9.00-17.30)
  • Cappella Brancacci (10.00-17.00)
  • MAD Murate art District (14.30-19.30)

In the morning, the Historical Procession of the Florentine Republic (departure at 10.15 a.m. from the Palagio di Parte Guelfa) will cross the streets of the centre to reach the Medici Chapels to lay a floral tribute on the tomb of the Electress.

Also on the same day, the customary Meeting with the Electress is scheduled in the Palazzo Vecchio museum: an opportunity to get to know this figure more closely, thanks to an event with compulsory booking by the MUS.E Association. The ‘living history’ meetings will be at 11, 12, a.m. & 3, 4, 5p.m. Reservation required: + 39 055-0541450 -   info@musefirenze.it
