Florence museums open for Easter Holidays

If you’re planning to visit any museums over the upcoming 2026 Easter holidays, it’s essential to know the opening hours of the main attractions in Florence and the surrounding area.

State museums

Between Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, many museums remain open to the public. For example, the state museums (Uffizi, Accademia, Bargello, Medici Chapels, San Marco, Archaeological Museum) are open on both the 5th and 6th; the exceptions are the Bargello, the Palazzo Pitti complex and Palazzo Davanzati, which will be open on Easter Sunday but closed on Easter Monday. Furthermore, as it is the first Sunday of the month, all state museums will offer free admission on the 5th.

Other museums

As for the municipal museums, please note that Palazzo Vecchio, the Museo Novecento and Santa Maria Novella will be open on both the 5th and the 6th; on Easter Monday, the Brancacci Chapel and the Stefano Bardini Museum will also be open. There is also a wide range of other museums open (including Casa di Dante, the Museo Galileo, the Marino Marini Museum, and Villa and Garden Bardini).

Churches & Medici Villas

As for churches, the entire Santa Maria del Fiore complex (the Duomo) will be closed on Easter Sunday, but will be open as usual the following day. Outside of Mass times, all other churches will be open to visitors on both Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. Not far from Florence, the Medici villas of Petraia and Castello (gardens only) will open their doors on both days, as will the Medici Park of Pratolino, which officially inaugurates its season on April 1st.

For full details, please consult the museum opening times for the 2026 Easter holidays. See also the section of our website for information on how to book the museums, particularly for the most popular places of interest.
