San Lorenzo Feast, August 10

The Feast of San Lorenzo (August 10th) has always been an occasion to remember the bonds between the city and the first church consecrated in the center of Florence, in 393 AD by Saint Ambrose. San Lorenzo is one of the most popular festival in the history of the city.

The day's program 2026 features the participation of the Historical Parade of the Florentine Republic, which, together with the Banner of the Municipality of Florence, attends the mass in the Basilica of San Lorenzo with the offering of candles.

On this occasion, the Medici Chapels Museum will hold an extraordinary evening opening from 7:15 PM to 11:00 PM. Palazzo Medici Riccardi also joins the event: the Museum will exceptionally remain open until 10:00pm (last admission 9:00pm).

The event takes place on the evening of Monday, August 10th at the foot of the Basilica of San Lorenzo and kicks off at 9:00 PM with the traditional free distribution of pasta with meat sauce (ragù), prepared for thousands of participants, followed by the traditional watermelon, a historic symbol of the anniversary and of Florentine summer conviviality.
Throughout the evening, piazza San Lorenzo comes alive with live music and social gatherings involving residents, visitors, and tourists. The event continues until late into the night, transforming the neighborhood into a great space for meeting and sharing.
