The Sesto Ceramics Archive is (also) available online
The website of the Sesto Fiorentino Ceramics Archive is now online. What is it, and what does the archive contain? Is it a museum? Is it a piece of Sesto’s history?
It is much more than that. The Ceramics Archive preserves the manufacturing history of Sesto Fiorentino, where the ceramics and porcelain industry was a driving force right up until the post-war period.
Ceramics are at the heart of Sesto Fiorentino; many residents have a potter’s wheel at home or brushes tucked away in a drawer. The older generation recounts tales of times gone by, whilst the younger generations proudly breathe new life into this art form. The Municipality of Sesto Fiorentino is proud to nurture, preserve and revitalise a place that serves as a living, creative memorial to Sesto’s ceramic tradition.
The archive is housed in a small, charming space, recognisable from the outside by a striking mural, and embodies the simplicity and warmth of the art and culture that are distinctive to Sesto Fiorentino.
It is a multi-purpose space that displays works and tools by local potters for visitors to admire, as well as areas where the art of pottery is practised and taught
