Clerici - Leong. Orchestra della Toscana

Classical music, opera and ballet

Two faces of the 19th century come together in a programme that contrasts classical balance and youthful vitality. At its heart is Ludwig van Beethoven’s Concerto in D major for violin and orchestra op. 61 (1806), a cornerstone of the repertoire: solemn and lyrical, shaped by formal clarity and moments of suspended poetry.

The soloist is Kerson Leong, the acclaimed Canadian violinist praised for his intense sound, refined bow control and expressive depth.

Conducting is Umberto Clerici, former principal cello in Sydney and now Principal Conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, known for his energetic and structurally clear musical vision.

The concert concludes with Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 3 in D major D 200, written at just eighteen: a bright, lively work that blends Haydn-inspired energy with melodies already unmistakably Schubert’s own.
