Giovanni Spadolini and the birth of the Ministry of Culture - The Man and the Legacy

Exhibitions

On the occasion of the centenary of Giovanni Spadolini's birth (1925 - 2025) and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of Cultural and Environmental Heritage (now the Ministry of Culture), the General Directorate of Archives of the Ministry of Culture is promoting the exhibition Giovanni Spadolini and the Birth of the Ministry of Culture - The Man and the Legacy, organized by the Florence State Archives with the collaboration of Fondazione MUS.E. The exhibition is taking place at the Archivio di Stato from June 21st to October 12th 2025.

Original materials are on display, including the Appunti per una Dichiarazione dei beni culturali (Notes for a Declaration of Cultural Heritage), from which the organizational idea of the new dicastery takes shape. The exhibition will thus also be a narrative journey built around Spadolini's own words, which will accompany visitors as they reflect on the meaning and evolution of cultural policy in Italy.

The exhibition will be open to the public, with free admission, according to the following hours: Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (excluding holidays). Guided tours on opening days: 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 12:00 pm. Information and contacts as-fi@cultura.gov.it.
