Lorenzo Bonechi - La città delle donne|The City of Women

Exhibitions

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the birth of Lorenzo Bonechi (Figline Valdarno, 1955–1994), the  Museo Novecento is paying tribute to the artist from Valdarno with an exhibition titled 'The City of Women', curated by Sergio Risaliti and Eva Francioli in collaboration with the Lorenzo Bonechi Archive. The exhibition will be open from 4 July to 29 October 2025.

Active since the late 1970s, Bonechi participated in the vibrant artistic scene of the 1980s, characterised by Transavanguardia, Anachronism, and Cultured Painting. A researcher and practitioner of drawing, he initially experimented with engraving and sculpture before dedicating himself almost exclusively to tempera and oil painting from 1982 onwards. The 25 works by Bonechi in The City of Women exhibition will be in dialogue with the museum's permanent collection, allowing visitors to explore his artistic universe where ethereal and sacred figures intertwine with landscapes and minimal architecture, creating a dialogue between spirituality and humanity.

Lorenzo Bonechi. The city of women

Exhibitions

This exhibition celebrates the central role of the female figure in Bonechi's work, blending spirituality and classical beauty. Immersed in harmonious landscapes and minimal architecture, the ethereal and powerful women evoke saints, sisters and muses, suspended between earth and divine. Drawing inspiration from ancient Greek Korai, they embody the purest and noblest human form. It is an immersive journey through sacrality, landscape and timeless visions, allowing visitors to discover the poetic universe of one of the most intense artists of his time.
