From 15 to 24 November 2026, the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino will stage Simon Boccanegra, Giuseppe Verdi’s masterpiece set in 14th-century Genoa. The opera tells the dramatic story of Simon Boccanegra, elected Doge of Genoa and caught up in political intrigues, struggles for power, revenge and family conflicts.
Composed to a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave and later revised by Verdi together with Arrigo Boito, Simon Boccanegra is distinguished by its intense, dark atmosphere and the prominent role of male voices. This new production by the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, presented in co-production with the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, offers a fresh interpretation of Verdi’s opera.
